RIVER PARK SQUARE PARKING GARAGE SHOWS STRENGTH IN MONTHLY BUSINESS PERFORMANCE

Spokane, Wash. – The River Park Square parking garage operators released garage performance for the month of May, showing a continued growth in gross revenues and car parks.

According to the garage operator, over 62,500 cars parked in the River Park Square garage last month, generating more than $151,300 in gross revenues for the downtown parking facility.  These figures outperform May 2000 by over 8 percent in gross revenues and over 6 percent in car counts.

“When making same month comparisons, the parking garage is showing a considerable, consistent growth trend,” said Bob Robideaux, project director for River Park Square.  “Downtown Spokane is on an upswing, and the increased shopping, dining, and entertainment opportunities at River Park Square, combined with the surrounding new business development, is having a dynamic effect on the River Park Square parking garage performance.”

Monthly figures for May represent the ninth consecutive month in which monthly gross revenues and garage utilization showed a notable increase over the same period in the year prior (see attached chart).

Now that construction to the retail center is completed, Robideaux predicts the trend to continue with major downtown activites such as Hoopfest, Live After 5, the Fourth of July Celebration, and as additional stores open in the retail center throughout the remainder of the year.

River Park Square and surrounding downtown businesses serve a regional market of more than 1.7 million people.  The new retail center has generated more than $5.4 million in tax and fee revenues for the City of Spokane and services located in the City, has created and retained more than 1100 jobs, and has served as a catalyst for downtown revitalization.  Since River Park Square opened, nearly $350 million in new downtown construction projects have been announced or moved forward.
