July 3, 2001 RIVER PARK SQUARE PARKING GARAGE RECORDS ONE
OF
Spokane, Wash. – The River Park Square parking garage wrapped-up the month of June 2001, posting monthly figures in the top-three for cars parked and gross revenues in the history of the newly renovated downtown parking facility. More than 75,300 cars parked in the facility last month, the second-highest car traffic month since the redeveloped garage opened in August 1999. The parking garage collected revenues in excess of $183,400 in June, the third-highest monthly gross revenues recorded since August 1999. These latest figures surpass June 2000 by 23 percent in car counts and 22.4 percent in gross revenues, maintaining the consistent upward trend in same month comparisons. The first six-months of 2001 are up over 20 percent compared to the first six-months of 2000. “River Park Square continues to expand its mix of one of a kind merchants with the opening of Miaz Boutique and Twigs Bistro and Bistro Bar,” said Bob Robideaux, project director for River Park Square. “Downtown is bursting with a broad offering of summer time events, all of which are bringing more people downtown and into the new shopping, dining and retail center.” Robideaux added tenant sales are up overall compared with the previous year, also playing a key factor in the increased garage business. June 2001 closely follows December 2000 as the highest monthly total for car counts and follows November and December 2000 as the highest monthly gross revenue totals. The developer continues to focus on marketing
and operation activities that
River Park Square and surrounding downtown businesses
serve a regional market of more than 1.7 million people. The new
retail center has generated more than $5.4 million in tax and fee revenues
for the City of Spokane and services located in the City, has created and
retained more than 1100 jobs, and has served as a catalyst for downtown
revitalization. Since River Park Square opened, nearly $350 million
in new downtown construction projects have been announced or moved forward.
