March 25, 2004 Ben & Jerry’s
to Open First Spokane Location at River Park Square
River Park Square announced today that a lease has been signed with Ben & Jerry’s. A Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop will add its world-famous ice cream products to the unique mix of merchants at the downtown retail center. The 300-square-foot shop will occupy a space near the entrance of the Atrium Cafes on 3 food court on the Center’s third level and employ 10-15 people. Slated to open in early May, it will be the company’s only store in eastern Washington. There are five Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops in the Puget Sound area. According to a spokesperson for the local franchisee, River Park Square is a perfect location for the new store because of downtown’s wonderful synergy and the great amount of activity at River Park Square and AMC Theatres. The Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop will serve over 30 ice cream flavors, many with fun and memorable names. It will also sell frozen drinks, smoothies, ice cream cakes, and more. Ben & Jerry’s ice cream is considered an affordable luxury with its high-quality and quantity of ingredients. In keeping with Ben & Jerry’s corporate commitment to social and community organizations, the River Park Square store will help support local non-profits, particularly those involving children. This will include a number of sponsorships and fundraisers. “Ben & Jerry’s one-of-a-kind product will enhance River Park Square’s premier retail offerings,” said Bob Smith, manager of River Park Square. “River Park Square is the heart of a revitalized downtown, which is being supported by a large number of shoppers and visitors, and attracting world-class retail.” The River Park Square leasing team is in conversations with a variety of prospective food vendors to fill the remaining spaces. The Atrium Cafes
on 3 is a two-level specialty food venue, which provide patrons a unique
dining experience, incorporating one-of-a-kind food offerings, a special
children’s eating area, meeting rooms, custom art features, and a spectacular
view of downtown Spokane and the Center’s atrium. It seats up to
550 people.
