September 13, 2001 RIVER PARK SQUARE PARKING GARAGE
SETS RECORD-HIGHS
The three-month period generated over $573,000 in gross revenues generated by the 232,480 cars parked in the garage (see chart below). Compared to the same period last year, this represents a 19 percent increase in gross revenues and a 20 percent increase in the number of cars utilizing the parking facility. During August 2001, 80,488 cars utilized the parking garage, accounting for more than $197,000 in gross revenues. Last month’s figures are the highest year-to-date and are second only to the month of December, typically the busiest shopping month of the year, as the highest in the history of the renovated center. Highly attended downtown events, such as Pig Out in the Park, during which 17,000 cars parked in the garage, and the Nordstrom Sale played key factors in the garage’s record-setting performance this summer, according to project director, Bob Robideaux. In addition, the parking garage is seeing an increase in weekday utilization and length of stay, Robideaux added. River Park Square and surrounding downtown businesses serve a regional market of more than 1.7 million people. The new retail center has generated more than $6.2 million in tax and fee revenues for the City of Spokane and services located in the City, has created and retained more than 1100 jobs, and has served as a catalyst for downtown revitalization. Since River Park Square opened, nearly $350 million in new downtown construction projects have been announced or moved forward. -30-
